From a fish’s point of view, water matters the most.
We are defective fish: in ice we are lost.
We need something open above us — be it blue, at least dull grey,
And if it is blue — let clouds drift along their way.

From a fish’s point of view, the current matters most:
You can swim along with it, or fight it coast to coast,
But the current tells you exactly where home is, where you must be.
We are defective fish, we grasp this with difficulty.

From our point of view, what matters most is drawing breath:
If our throat constricts, what’s left for us — a minute before death?
The fish is amazed: “The water is here! Just swim, and be free!”
We are defective fish: without love, we can’t breathe.
